Advisory Group Formed (Roster Included)

Posted on Nov. 15, 2020

A U.S. 69 Expansion Project Advisory Group, comprised of civic, business and elected leaders, began meeting in December 2020. The Advisory Group will focus on providing the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) with meaningful input as it identifies potential solutions for safety, congestion, economic growth and other issues affecting U.S. 69. It is an important part of KDOT’s comprehensive approach for gathering public feedback about how best to improve this important corridor.

Members of the Advisory Group are people who reside in the area or represent governments, organizations, businesses or agencies affected by the current and future operation or design of U.S. 69. The Advisory Group is helping KDOT better understand community needs and preferences regarding U.S. 69 and providing feedback on how well potential solutions serve state and regional transportation-related priorities.

This is being done through a series of Advisory Group meetings at which information related to U.S. 69 is presented so that members can better understand relevant issues, ask questions and provide KDOT with specific, actionable feedback. Without necessarily reaching or requiring consensus on all issues, these discussions are structured to generate broad input from a diverse set of perspectives for KDOT to consider.

KDOT is not a member of the group, although its representatives attend and participate in all meetings, along with helping to facilitate discussions. KDOT listens to group discussions and responds to questions and concerns. It will use the Advisory Group’s input to help inform its own project decision-making process within the legal, technical and financial constraints under which KDOT operates.
